Automation Engineer R&D – Develop Advanced Automation Solutions for New Products

Based in Søborg, you will join Mechanical and Digital R&D, a team of 11 colleagues including project managers, R&D specialists, and a technical designer, all collaborating on developing new products for the division. Your responsibilities and tasks
As an Automation Engineer in R&D, you will play a central role in developing automation solutions for new products. You will work with both software and hardware, as well as prototype development, in an iterative development process.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Programming PLC-based systems – primarily in Siemens TIA Portal
Implementing communication protocols such as PROFINET, OPC UA, etc., to connect in-house MCU-based solutions with main PLC systems at plant level
Building prototype systems, including wiring, component selection, and choosing enclosures and panels
Preparing technical documentation
Troubleshooting, optimizing, and documenting both software and hardware solutions in an iterative development process
Your profile and qualifications
We are looking for someone who can work independently with technical responsibility for automation solutions. You use strong analytical skills to evaluate multiple solution options based on performance, robustness, cost, and development risk.
Additionally, we imagine that you:
Have at least 3–5 years of practical experience as an automation or PLC engineer and can structure maintainable and well-documented PLC software
Have solid experience with Siemens TIA Portal
Have experience with industrial communication protocols such as PROFINET and OPC UA
Have hands-on experience with system debugging and fault analysis in prototypes
Preferably have experience working in an R&D or development department
Have practical experience with prototype building, including layout and wiring of electrical panels and control cabinets, selection of components such as PLCs, I/O, sensors, actuators, and safety components, as well as assembly, testing, and rework of electrical prototype systems
